About Us

About Us.

We are glad you are interested in learning more about VoDA and our phillanthropic work in Kenya. We have discovered that if we invest a sufficient amount of time, energy and work hand in hand with the local people of rural kenya, we can facilitate improvements in health, education, environmental conservation and the local economy through micro-enterprise development and international youth program exchanges.

VoDA is a grassroots volunteer organization that is registered in Kenya and Canada. The organization  has been active since 2009. One unique feature that characterises our organisation is that we operate through a patnership between overseas volunteers and a staff of local kenyans.

All of our international co-ordination, fundraising and marketing is done through a staff of unpaid volunteers from the US, Canada, Germany and Japan. Our on the ground operations are all run by local kenyans who are trained in running the various programmes we have on offer. They act as refferes and coaches for the volunteers we receive and help them settle into their assigned communities once they arrive.

From our first hand experiences in Kenya, we have witnessed certain situations in development work that can inhibit progress. Unfortunately, development and education projects offered by some international organisations often reach a limted number of individuals. Most often, only those living in easily accessible locations benefit from knowledge and humanitarian aid offered by these NGO's.

VoDA has worked with communities in rural kenya  over a long duration and has come to realise that the best way to release people from the shackles of poverty is to empower them through microenterprise development initiatives. We are helping rural women's self help groups start small retail shops, bee keeping projects to harvest honey, fisheries and horticulture projects on group land. This inturn has a tremendeous impact on the community as we believe that when you empower a woman, you have basically empowered a whole community and inturn a nation.

VoDA runs a primary school teaching program where volunteers are assiged to assist overworked teachers. Our aim is to provide enough teachers at these schools and promote a  strong culture of education for the future leaders of Kenya,.One of our most active partner schools, Syengoni primary school, intends to build a proposed library that will provide an opportunity for increased literacy for the children at the community .Syengoni primary school is one of VoDA's long term projects in the educational program.

VoDA's mission revolves around issues of poverty, particularly the lack of education, economic opportunity and environmental concerns. Our goal is to train people to be effective business entrepreneurs, community leaders and global citizens through the organization of community work camps, internships, volunteer programs, community development projects, and educational tours that focus on the four key issues of our work foundation, namely:

  • Reducing poverty.
  • Increasing global cooperation.
  • Promoting sustainable development, equality and social justice.
  • Environmental conservation and protection

We believe in giving everyone a chance to contribute to a better society by organizing  events that get people engaged with each other from all over the world. We strive to ensure that they are interactive, enjoyable, educational, and, most of all, life-changing: In short, putting together real people in the real world to bring a real change in people's lives.

We kindly urge you to join us in this endeavour of creating a world that reaches out to one another and preaches the message of peace and social justice for all. Come join us and be an active participant in our programmes whether active or passive you are most highly welcomed to do so.
